Basic Mediation Training MAY/JUNE 2024 – Tsipora Dimant, through Portland Community College

Provides a highly interactive training to become a mediator and to develop better communication skills in conflict situations. Learn to use mediation skills to help resolve conflicts in workplace, court, business or community-related disputes.

Tsipora Dimant has been a mediator and a conflict coach for the past 32 years. She initiated the mediation pogram at OEA (Oregon Education Association), which now serves 40,000 members who seek mediation or conflict coaching. She also teaches mediation and conflict coaching classes for OEA, Portland Community College, the City of Hillsboro, the City of Milwaukie and for Multnomah County.

Advanced Skills in Mediation

This advanced skills class is an opportunity to expand your skills and practices as you
encounter more complex cases. Through demonstrations and role plays, you will gain
competencies using facilitative, directive and transformative mediations. You will also
learn how to destabilize the narratives people tell, handle high conflict personalities,
know when to walk away from a case and practice reflecting on imperfect mediations,
using reflective practices.


Specific Objectives:
● Gain practical tools to handle race and other equity related cases
● Learn to stay calm when the parties escalate the conflict or walk away
● Practice the use of questions to get through impasses and create transformational moments
● Have fun working with colleagues from different areas of practice to deepen your experience


TRAINERS:
Tsipora Dimant has been a mediator since 1992. She mediates workplace, court,
families and small or large group disputes. Her latest project involves managing a
statewide Peer Mediation Program for the Oregon Education Association. Tsipora also
teaches mediation skills for Portland Community College, The City of Hillsboro, The City
of Milwaukie, Multnomah County and the Oregon Education Association.
Lee Hamilton began her mediation practice in 2007 following a career of counseling
children and families at Portland Public Schools. She began mediating in Small Claims
court followed by facilitating workplace mediations in large group settings. She also
mediates for divorcing couples.
